Why 'Hidden Slaves'? An exploration for the reasoning behind the name and icon
This ongoing investigation is a part of my multi-media journalism final year project, which I have chosen to focus on modern-day slavery.
The icon I created shows someone that is being locked up in chains and wants to be free, which symbolises modern-day slavery victims in the UK.
The assignment must include online, written, audio and visual elements. I formed this blog in order to provide everyone with regular updates of the latest news on the topic and the production of my project - including images, interactivity and social media features.
The key reason I chose to name my investigation, 'Hidden Slaves' is because modern slavery in the UK has before been described as exploitation happening 'hidden in plain sight.'
Emphasising that contemporary forms of slavery are often happening in front of the public, without them being aware. A key example of this would be in the capital city, London, where slavery has been branded the most severe in the country.
Throughout the process of the project so far, I have spoken to a wide variety of people in different areas of the sector, who have expressed their opinions, concerns and progressions about the cause.
My end goal is to find out the reasoning for the underestimation of official figures and the victim care in the UK.
